SOHO Business Cards Tour: Printing
|
 |
Your business card says something about you and your company. Putting your design to paper gives you a tangible way to communicate your message.
Printing professional-quality business cards has never been easier. Several manufacturers including Avery produce business card stock for your ink jet or laser printer. Many of these latest stocks produce such good results that they have to be seen to believed. SOHO Business Cards can print directly to these stocks or you can send your design to an online printer for commercial printing.

Outstanding card stock options.

Early business card stock used perforated edges to separate the cards on the page. Once separated, the cards had rough unprofessional-looking edges.
Business card stock has come a long way in recent years. For example, Avery's new Clean Edge Business Cards have cards that snap out of the page for smooth, clean edges. These new cards are virtually indistinguishable from commercially printed cards.

Business Card stocks are available in a wide-variety of finishes including matte, glossy, uncoated, corduroy, linen, and vellum. Choose a finish that fits your message and style.

There are two different layouts for business card stock: full bleed and regular. "Full bleed" stock means that there is a gap between each card on the sheet so you can "print-to-the-edge" of the card without accidentally printing on an adjacent card. Full bleed stock usually comes with 8 cards per sheet. "Regular" stock means that all of the cards on the sheet share an edge with adjacent cards (no gap between cards). Manufacturers can fit 10 cards per sheet with regular stock since there are no gaps.
Choose a full bleed card stock if you have artwork that reaches any edge of the card.

Tools for perfect results.

Printers don't always feed paper as precisely as we would like. This sometimes results in artwork that doesn't print on the card in the correct position.
SOHO Business Cards has a simple and unique printer calibration feature that ensures perfect card stock alignment so you don't waste card stock.

Full bleed designs are designs in which a background color, logo, or other artwork goes all the way to the edge of the card. When printing full bleed designs, you want the artwork that goes to the edge of the card to actually "bleed" or extend past the edge of the card a little bit. The "bleed" gives your printer a margin of error in case the business card stock does not feed precisely in. This margin of error is also important for commercial print jobs since all cuts have a certain margin of error.
SOHO Business Cards lets you extend your artwork past the boundary of the design canvas and also lets you specify a bleed size when printing so you always get perfect results.
